9th June 2024

Wood fire in the shed, 13 degrees outside with a cold northerly wind. Yesterday was a mix of sudden warmth and light showers. I walked up to the Gwrhyd then off to the hills opposite towards Carmarthenshire then back via a beautiful low glacial valley with the river Egel running through the valley bottom, snaking over sandstones. We talked of faith, spirit and singing.

This hidden valley, largely unpopulated and unscarred by development shows that it is a remnant of the last ice age where the retreating ice over thousands of years carved ridges in the hillsides. I have used a small offcut of plywood, the grain flowing like the landscape. The foreground was in bright sunshine. I used some plaster to bring the foreground to our feet!
